Dr. Martin is an anthropologist who studies comparative policing with a focus on East Asia. He held a position in the Graduate Institute of Taiwan Studies at Chang Jung Christian University, and lectured at Taiwan’s Central Police University. Dr. Martin’s research focuses on the interaction between political culture and administrative institutions. He is interested in the historical and cultural processes that generate the character of a given policing regime, conducting research into the way Taiwan’s policing system adapted to the end of the authoritarian single-party state there in 1986. He has written extensively about the cultural foundations for the successful institutionalization of democratic values in Taiwanese policing.
